At Black Mountain Elementary, we continue to engage in our district's focus on truth and reconciliation. To live out our district's Equity in Action Agreement, we focus on indigenizing our curriculum in many ways, including through connecting the Four Food Chiefs to our Attributes of a Learner. We have made a goal of reviewing each Indigenous title in our library to determine if it is an authentic resource and or if it reflects values and beliefs of the Indigenous community the resource represents. We are deeply honoured to take up this work on behalf of all our students, and we are proud to learn on the traditional unceded territory of the Okanagan Syilx people.

At Black Mountain Elementary, we are deeply committed to the growth and development of the whole child. We strive for academic growth by attending to the social and emotional needs of our students, and we believe that building character is a vital part of helping children flourish as lifelong learners who will live good lives. There is no end of the list of traits within character education, and we believe that we honour our students and their families through our commitment to this very important facet of education.
